A sneak peek at the Volunteers’ uniform for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

Volunteers at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games will receive a uniform – but not yet. There are still some checks to undergo before volunteers can collect their uniform.

The Volunteer’s uniform has been designed to meet three criteria:

  1. Comfort: Volunteers need to feel comfortable when conducting their specified assignment, and therefore the uniform has been adapted to various assignments, as well as different weather conditions and to different people.
  2. Identity: Volunteers need to be readily identified for their role of assisting Games attendees and in general around Paris and Olympic venues.
  3. Pride:  Volunteers need to feel a sense of pride and the uniform is an integral part of that feeling within the atmosphere of the Games.

The Volunteer’s uniform will be unveiled at the Volunteer Convention on 23 March 2024. In the meantime, a Podcast revealed some information about what volunteers can expect.

Julie Toussaint is the manager in charge of uniforms for the 45,000 volunteers, as at January 2024. She confirms that the uniform must be comfortable, visible, and identifiable.

Claire Flipo, in charge of partnerships at Decathlon, a French sporting goods retailer established in 1976, says that the company will equip the volunteers in Paris with a uniform and assist in the collection point in various venues.

Claire said,

“Most importantly, it should be practical, ergonomic clothing … adapted to the climate and different assignments. We have a sustainable design: a hundred percent of the range is eco-designed, using recycled components and low-impact dyeing methods. More than fifty percent of the constituent parts are made in France.”

And the uniform is unisex, she added.

Joachim Roncin, in charge of design for Paris 2024, says the design of the uniform is important not only because France is known for its fashion, but also because he wanted them to be as unique as possible. The design team had to take both functionality and uniqueness into account.

The complete set of the Volunteers’ uniform consists of 16 items. And that’s all that is known right now.
