9-10 August 2025 in Paris: Beaches, Films, Comedy & Summer Arts

When the French are on vacation and out of town, August in Paris knows how to surprise remainers and tourists. Whether you’re here for a weekend, a week, or all summer long, this weekend (August 9–10, 2025) offers the perfect excuse to dive into everything the capital has to offer: beaches by the Seine, films under the stars, contemporary performances, and even a bit of comedy

Let’s start with the classic Paris Plages (Paris Beaches). Along the banks of the Seine and the Bassin de la Villette, the city transforms into a riverside retreat complete with pop-up beaches, swimming zones, deckchairs, palm trees, and open-air cafés. All day and it’s free.

What could be more magical than watching a film outdoors with Paris as your backdrop? The Cinéma en Plein Air festival (Open Air Cinema Festival) continues this weekend at Parc de la Villette with two screenings each evening. It’s free but arrive early for a good spot at Prairie du Triangle, Parc de la Villette. Bring a blanket, a picnic, and maybe even a glass of rosé.

6:00 pm – family-friendly screenings

9:00 pm – cinematic classics and recent releases

Now in its 35th edition, Festival Paris l’Été (Paris Summer Festival) transforms iconic and unexpected spaces, such as churches, rooftops, courtyards, and gardens, into venues for art and performance. Catch Josépha Madoki’s contemporary dance, Lia Rodrigues’ “Encantado” or enjoy immersive circus with Rouge Merveille (Red Marvel). The program includes theatre, cabaret, music, and more, scattered across the city. Check their website for locations and ticketing. Many performances are free or low-cost.

For a quiet moment indoors, step into the mesmerizing world of Atelier des Lumières (Light Studio). Tickets are available online for the exhibitions at 38 Rue Saint-Maur in the 11tharrondissement. Two exhibitions are on this weekend:

Le Petit Prince (The Little Prince)– L’Odyssée immersive

Van Gogh – The Immersive Experience

Are you looking for something different? Head to the Marco Polo Comedy Club in the 1st arrondissement of Paris for a night of laughter with stand-up comedy from new and established artists. Expect wit, charm, and perhaps some very Parisian observations. Tickets are availablefrom €8 per person.

Do you feel  energetic on Sunday mornings? Join a free sport session with the Paris Olympics team. From pilates to table tennis, these pop-up activities are offered across 12 iconic locations in the city. No signup needed — just show up. Check online for locations nearest you.

While some Parisians escape the city in August, those who stay are rewarded with space to explore, time to breathe, and events that celebrate culture, creativity, and joy.
